A Brief History of Button Up
Button Up formed in 1998 with two friends Garry John Kane (Bass) and Ross McFarlane (Drums) were joined by Paul Gallagher on Keys. Button Up played as an instrumental mod/jazz trio in various bars in the Glasgow area. A residency at the now famous Buff Club gained great support and reputation with the ‘in’ crowd of Glasgow. Button Up’s debut album ‘Jazz Casual’ was released in 2000 (produced by Greg Kane of Hue & Cry) and featured covers and original tracks. It was a calling card and attracted the attention of Del Amitri singer Justin Currie and Hue & Cry’s Pat Kane. Button Up become backing band for both singers on tours of Scotland and this led to the next album ‘No Dancing On the Tables’ which was released in 2007. Produced by Mark Freegard in Glasgow, it featured Justin Currie on lead vocals on 3 tracks and Joseph Malik on two tracks.

A band line up change lead to the next Button Up album ‘Modena’ in 2011 was produced by Andy Gardner in Glasgow and featured 5 vocal tracks and 5 instrumentals. It had some success and still sells well to this day.

Next was ‘Covered E.P’ which was released in 2012 and again produced by Andy Gardner and featured a cover of the instrumental track ‘Berts Apple crumble’ by The Quik. The Button Up version was played and listed on the Craig Charles Funk and Soul show. The most streamed track on Button Up Records back catalogue.

Next up in 2014 was ‘Beat Street’ which was produced by Greg Kane and featured 10 tracks with vocals and 4 tracks co-writtin by Sara Kerr. A cover of Miles Kanes ‘Inhaler’ had some great airplay and became an album favourite with Button Up fans.

New album “Instrumentals” release November 2017 was a compilation of tracks from last 10 years of all instrumental recordings by Button up.

Next up for Button Up is a new album for 2018 with various gigs in-between.
